Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common queries we’ve had from our curious community. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just contact us and we’ll get right on it!

Our boxes are shipped on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday on a Royal Mail 48hr service. However we are seeing some quite lengthy delays due to the impact of COVID on Royal Mail staffing and expect this to only get worse in the lead up to Christmas.

Our very last cutoff for Christmas delivery is 21st December, though we cannot guarantee that boxes will arrive in time if placed on or after this date. If you’ve left it to the last minute you can always go for donations voucher.

Science and sustainability go hand-in-hand at the Curiosity Box, and as scientists, we want to make this world a better place, not one littered with junk. So we have a simple but strict policy:

  • Our packaging has always been compostable corn starch or sustainably sourced card.
  • Our supply chain is as ethical as possible, and minimising carbon by sourcing as much as possible from local suppliers.
  • The contents of the box are all sourced with the environment in mind. We use compostable cups and straws, eco cotton buds, eco glitter and reusable containers wherever possible.
  • We challenge our Curiosity Community to find creative ways to use their box when they’re done with the activities!

Yes! Beneath the fun, we make sure that each activity builds confidence and competence in primary science, engineering and DT. It isn’t supposed to “feel like school” but to give our cadets a head start with their STEM lessons

All of our activities are with your child’s safety at the top of our list of must-haves. We don’t let anything out of CBHQ without making sure it’s fully compliant with the latest Health and Safety legislation. Some of our boxes contain food (like Bake Off Lab and Healthy Me) so please read the details of the box before you check out.

We have boxes for all children aged 4-11:

Our original Curiosity Box is aimed at children aged 7-11 and in years 3-6 of Primary School. We also link all topics and activities to the KS2 Curriculum.

If your child is aged 3-6, you want our all-new Curiositots Box. These boxes are linked to the KS1 curriculum and have all the sciency fun of their elder sibling.

With all our boxes we encourage grown-ups to offer their services as trusty lab assistant, and it’s up to you and your cadet what activities you do together. All we ask, is that you follow our safety instructions.

STEM is simply an acronym and stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. You might also come across STEAM which is just Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths.

A Jumbo box contains 3-4 science activities for children aged 7-11. This is about 4-5 hours of activity time. The Jumbo box also comes with extras like reusable science collectables and Molymods, so your cadet can build up their at-home lab with each box.

A Nano box contains 2 activities for 7-11 year olds – about 2 hours of activity time.

A Tots box contains 4 activities for 4-6 year olds – that’s about 4 hours of activity time. This Box also comes with extras like reusable science collectables, so your cadet can build up their at-home lab.

All our orders are sent by Royal Mail 48 which includes a tracking number so we can see if your order is still on its way. We suggest allowing up to 5 business days, but after that drop us a line at or ring on 01865 546145, and we’ll help you track it down.

We include all the specialist equipment and for the most part, all the other bits and bobs you need. But there are a few things that we can’t include because we aren’t allowed to ship them because they’re too large/fragile (like an egg!), or they’re things that you’re bound to have at home, like bowls, spoons, scissors for example.

Yes you can. When you have picked your box and are ready to check out you can add a different delivery address to the billing address.

The Curiosity Shop is where all of our STEM boxes and sciency goodness is waiting to be bought. Our boxes make awesome birthday gifts, work really well in a home school environment, and can be used to run a fab STEM themed birthday party!

We’ve designed each Jumbo STEM box to work for one child. But we make sure we include enough supplies to allow for mistakes and repeating experiments. When we’ve tested activities out in small groups (say up to 3 children), we’ve found that there’s easily enough kit for sharing.

In the UK we ship all our boxes by Royal Mail 48, which should take 2-3 days to arrive. This provides on-delivery tracking. Please do allow more time in the lead up to Christmas as we find good old Royal Mail can get a bit sloooowwww.

We also ship to mainland Europe, the Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea. International postage will be applied at checkout.

Every brilliant scientist needs a helping hand from time-to-time! Just drop us an email or call us 01865 546145 and we’ll help you and your cadet get your activity or experiment back on track.

Don’t worry, we’re totally prepared. Let us know by emailing us at or by calling us on 01865 546145. We’ll log it, and send you a replacement straight away. We also recommend that you dispose of the box safely. We don’t include anything hazardous in our boxes but, we like to play it safe so if your box is leaking, please wear some safety or rubber gloves before handling the contents. All the packaging is either recyclable (instruction cards and box) or compostable (the little bags that we use the package each activity up). If you get the Jumbo or Curiositots boxes you might be able to salvage the collectables!

All our experiments and activities are designed and put together by our team of thinkers, tinkerers and testers right here in the UK. Our team is made up of bright young researchers and engineers from The University of Oxford, people who have worked in schools and of course lots of mums!
